5 Best Baby Scales in 2022

June 28, 2022

What are the best baby scales?

Nothing is more important than the development of your baby. You need to know if they are growing properly and reaching important milestones. Part of this development is making sure they are gaining weight properly.

Unfortunately, many infants struggle with this. That’s where a baby scale comes in useful. With these scales you can measure and track your babies weight. This way you’ll know if they are developing correctly.

What to Look for Before Buying a Baby Scale

There are several things you should look for when buying a baby scale. First of all, it helps if the scale operates on batteries. This way you don’t have to take the time to plug it in. Cords are also dangerous with a baby around. Next, you should look for something called “Tare.” This function allows for additional weight, such as the baby’s diaper or blanket. It’s also useful if you’ve just fed your baby and want to do a weighted feed.

Something else you should look for are anti-slip pads. This is extra important. The last thing you want is your baby slipping off the scale. Along with this the scale should be easy to clean and have a large display. This makes it easier to see what’s going on when weighing your baby.

  2. Beurer BY80 Digital Baby Scale
  3. Smart Weigh Comfort Baby Scale
  4. HeyValue Baby and Toddler Scale
  5. Salter Baby and Toddler Scale

1. Greater Good Smart Baby Scale

Pros:

  • The settling algorithm makes it easier to use
  • Comes with its own app
  • Extra-large weighing area

Cons:

  • Even with the settling algorithm it sometimes gives different weights
  • The app may raise privacy concerns for some people
  • Short battery life

This scale has some incredible features which you’re sure to love. The best of these is what the makers refer to as a “settling algorithm.” You see, the problem with weighing babies is that they often move around and refuse to settle down. This makes it tough to get an accurate reading. With this settling algorithm, it’s easier to get a correct measurement, even when your child is fussing.

What’s also great is that the scale comes with its own app. This allows you to record data on your phone and keep track of your babies progress. The scale also features a comfortable curved design. This makes it difficult for your baby to fall off when moving around.

As well as this, there’s an extra-large weighing area. This means your baby is unlikely to outgrow it. What’s more, the scale is easy to use and also has a large easy-to-see display. With all of these great features this is probably the best baby scale on our list.

2. Beurer BY80 Digital Baby Scale

Pros:

  • High quality German design
  • Rounded edges for safety
  • Auto lock and tare function

Cons:

  • This scale is quite fragile
  • Can be difficult to clean
  • The app can be hard to use

This scale is manufactured by Beurer, a German electronics manufacturer. We mention this so that you can be assured of this scales quality. And it is a quality scale. In fact, it’s probably the best baby scale for weighted feeds.

To start with, this scale features high precision sensors which provide extremely accurate measurements. There’s also has a good-sized display which is backlit, making it easier to read, especially if the room is dark.

This scale also has an auto-lock function which is useful. For example, let’s say your baby is moving around and the reading is constantly changing. This scale waits until it detects an accurate measurement and then locks onto that.

What makes this measurement even more accurate is the scales built in tare function. As we’ve said, this function allows the scale to account for extra weight, such as your babies blanket, clothing, and toys. The scale also has rounded edges, which stops your baby from potentially hurting itself. Finally, like the above scale this one also comes with an app.

3. Smart Weigh Comfort Baby Scale

Pros:

  • Two year warranty
  • Turns off automatically to save battery life
  • Much cheaper than anything else on our list

Cons:

  • Flat weighing area is dangerous
  • No automatic tare or lock function
  • Small size means your baby could outgrow it

The one thing we didn’t like about this scale is the weighing area, which is completely flat. This means that your child could potentially roll off when your back is turned. While this is a minor point, it’s something you should bear in mind.

That being said, while this isn’t the best scale there are a few good points. It comes with a two year warranty, which is something that no other scale on this list features. It also turns off automatically when not in use, and this helps you save on battery life.

There are also further issues, which need mentioning.  To start with, there’s no automatic lock or tare function. Yes, while it does has both of these features, they are manual. This makes the scale difficult to use. Keeping your baby still is difficult enough, without having to worry about getting an accurate reading.

4. HeyValue Baby and Toddler Scale

Pros:

  • No-slip pads on weighing area
  • Measures in imperial and metric units
  • Large, easy-to-read display

Cons:

  • Takes three battery and has short battery life
  • Larger than other scales
  • Weighing area tilts from side to side

This is one of the best scale for weighing baby. It comes with everything you’d expect from this kind of product. Something we really liked is that it weights in both metric and imperial units, and also comes with the standard hold and auto-lock functions.

Another great feature is the weighing area, which is curved and features no slip pads, for added safety. This scale is also manufactured from plastic which is BPA free and does not contain hazardous chemicals.

Along with this, there’s a large, easy to read, back-lit LCD display. This product also measures weights of up to 66lbs, which is a lot more than some of the other scales we’ve reviewed.

Probably the best thing about this scale is that it’s one of the cheapest on our list. Despite this, the quality is decent and it gets the job done. If you’re looking for something simple and straightforward, then you can’t go wrong with this product.

5. Salter Baby and Toddler Scale

Pros:

  • Comes with batteries included
  • You can remove the tray for washing
  • Can convert into a toddler or pet scale

Cons:

  • Scales design can be dangerous
  • Scale is heavy and difficult to move
  • The weighing area is a lot smaller than other scales

This is also a fairly decent baby scale. It’s high quality and has all the functions needed to weigh your baby. What’s also nice is that it’s battery operated and comes with batteries included. This means you don’t have to go through the hassle of plugging it in, or worry about dangerous cords.

You can also remove the tray for easy washing, which is something we haven’t seen with any other scale we’ve reviewed. Also, once you’ve removed the tray, this scale can be used to weight toddlers or pets.

That being said, there were things we didn’t like about it.  For starters, while batteries make things more convenient, they can also make things more inconvenient. The last thing you want are the batteries dying when it’s time to weigh your child.

Something else we really didn’t like about this scale is that it has a weird design. The tray is raised high off the ground. This may pose a small risk to your child if they fall off the scale. It’s also quite heavy, which might be a problem for some people.
