The 10 Best Toddler Beds to Buy in 2020

What are the best toddler beds of 2020?

One of the first things you’ll notice after you welcome your new baby to the family is how fast they outgrow all their baby stuff, be that a baby onesie a pair of shoes, a bassinet, or a baby crib!

Babies grow at an alarmingly fast rate and before you even know it it’s time to move them from a baby crib to a larger toddler bed.

If you’re wondering when’s the right time to move your child from a baby crib to a toddler bed you should know that there’s no set time. The switching point can vary depending on a lot of factors like the size of your child and how active they are.

Usually children move from a baby crib to a toddler bed somewhere between the ages of 1 1/2 and 3 years old. To be honest, if your child still fits in your baby crib and it doesn’t complain then there’s no need to move on to a toddler bed until it’s 3 to 3 and a half years old to maximize the use of a baby crib.

1) Dream On Me Classic Design Toddler Bed

Pros

  • Two side safety rails
  • 15 available colors
  • Classic and simple design
  • Meets CPSC and ASTM standards
  • Affordable

Cons

  • Not convertible

The Dream on Me classic design toddler bed is the best overall toddler bed in our top 10 roundup.

While it doesn’t feature a unique and complex design, its seamless and clean style will appeal to most parents and will perfectly fit in your nursery. It comes in 15 different colors so there’s no shortage of options.

Like most toddler beds, it meets the ASTM and CPSC standards (according to the manufacturer) and it’s free of phtalates, lates, lead and BPA making it 100% safe for your baby.

The Deam On Me Classic Design toddler bed is ideal for when your child makes the transition from a baby crib to a toddler bed; having two side safety rails it’s a welcome safety and ergonomic feature. All the tools that are needed for assembly are included but please note that you need to buy a mattress separately (which is commonly the case with all the toddler beds in our roundup).

This toddler bed has been a lifesaver! It’s the perfect size for our almost 2 year old who has refused to get out of our bed for months. She never slept in her crib when she was younger but now that we have “baby bed” she climbs right in and loves it. It is sturdy enough that mama can sometimes get in and cuddle (I’m about 160 lbs). It’s also compact enough that it fits in the corner of our bedroom so that she can still climb into our bed if she needs us in the middle of the night. This is one of my favorite purchases!

2) Regalo My Cot Portable Toddler Bed

Pros

  • Portable
  • Lighweight
  • Cheap
  • Washable
  • 3 available colors

Cons

  • Not as sturdy as other toddler beds made from wood or plastic
  • Not ideal for permanent placement

The Regalo My Cot Portable Toddler Bed is the most portable, lightweight and affordable toddler bed in our roundup.

If you’re looking for the perfect toddler bed to take with you on camping, sleepovers, daycare and other outdoor or indoor activities then look no further.

Its strong selling point is its portability; it weights a mere 6.25 pounds and can be folded to fit in your car trunk with ease. If you’re an avid camper, you spend time in the garden, outdoors, or have organize sleepovers often and need extra beds then the Regalo My Cot will solve all your problems.

If on the other hand you’re looking for a more “permanent” and sturdy solution that you want to put in the nursery then there are other better alternatives on the market.

Even though the Regalo My Cot is foldable and washable it’s still sturdy enough as it has steel legs and frame while the canvas can hold up to 75 pounds. The sleeping area also features a fitted sheet to improve comfort.

This is the coolest product I’ve purchased in a while. It’s absolutely the perfect solution for my 3 year old who just got too big for a pack n play. We bought it to use in our camper (for which it was perfect) but then ended up using it at the beach, in our tent, on our boat, etc. Our son is so comfortable on this, and it’s super portable.

3) Delta Children Canton Toddler Bed

Pros

  • Easy assembly
  • JPMA certified
  • Sturdy wooden construction

Cons

  • Only 3 colors available

The Delta Children Canton Toddler Bed is very similar with our top pick by Dream On Me but it boasts a more sophisticated and mature design that will fit much better in less modern surroundings.

It is JPMA certified meaning it meets all the requirements by the CPSC and ASTM and features a sturdy and strong wood construction.

The Delta Canton Toddler Bed is positioned low to the ground for easy access by your toddler and the included side guardrails will ensure your child won’t roll off the bed.

Wow talk about EASY ASSSEMBLY. I’m about eight months pregnant and I put this together in an hour. Which means this will probably take you very little time to assemble because I’m not savvy when it comes to building. Anyways the white is a beautiful WHITE color. It’s not off white or vanilla or cream. It’s quite vibrant. In fact, I even bought this with the Delta universal dresser and PERFECT MATCH. This toddler bed has great quality wood just like most delta product do. I bought this for my 13th month old trying to transition him out of the crib since he’s been climbing out. I would say I would purchase again. I would also like to point out this item arrived verrrry quickly (which everything on Amazon typically does). If you’re wondering this fits just abregular crib mattress. Overall great quality & vibrant color!

4) Big Oshi Contemporary Design Toddler Bed

Pros

  • Easy assembly
  • ASTM safety standards
  • 2 safety side rails

Cons

  • Small color selection

The Big Oshi toddler day bed is a serious contender for our top pick for the best toddler beds of 2020. With an elegant, clean and modern design and a solid wooden construction that you can get at an affordable price there’s not much we can critisize about this toddler bed.

Much like the other toddler beds in our roundup, it comes with all the necessary tools for assembly included in the packaging and putting it together is a matter of minutes.

The Big Oshi toddler bed meets the ASTM safety standards and comes with two side rails for added protection and safety.

The only downside is that it doesn’t come in many different colors like some of the competitors’ solutions but the available colors should be fine for most nurseries.

Easy Set up and such a cute bed. My daughter is 1 and 1/2 and can easily climb on and off of it. The side rails are so good so she won’t fall off (she moves a lot while she sleeps)

5) Dream On Me Emma 3 in 1 Convertible Toddler Bed

Pros

  • 3 in 1 convertible
  • 9 Colors available
  • New Zealand pine wood

Cons

  • Conversion kit sold separately

The Dream on Me Emma 3 in 1 Convertible Toddler Bed is our third choice for the best toddler bed of 2020.

It comes in 9 different colors ensuring that you will perfectly match the decor of your home and the nursery.

It’s the only convertible toddler bed featuring 3 different modes:

  1. Toddler bed
  2. x2 Chair/sofas
  3. Table

This makes it an excellent purchase as you can easily repurpose it once your child outgrows the toddler bed and needs a full-sized day bed, you can turn this into a set of chairs and table for your kid’s room. Just note that the required conversion kit is sold separately.

When it comes to safety features, the Emma 3 in 1 Convertible Toddler Bed doesn’t fall short – it’s ASTM and CPSC standard compliant and features 4 side rails for added safety.

Our 2 year old made the switch from her crib to this toddler bed almost too easily. The safety railings provided confinement that was similar to the crib, while still allowing her to get in and out herself. It’s also an adorable little piece of furniture. My husband, who is naturally very handy, put this together easily. I think that anyone could easily put it together long as they follow the instructions.

6) Delta Children Plastic Toddler Bed

Pros

  • Affordable
  • 16 Different designs (featuring popular cartoon characters)
  • Steel frame
  • JPMA certified

Cons

  • May look too “childish” when your child grows up
  • Holds up to 50 pounds

The Delta Children Plastic Toddler Bed is a budget and quality starter toddler bed. It’s the ideal option for parents who are not looking to break the bank when buying a new toddler bed while still want to get something that will last you for a couple of years at least.

Even though it’s made from plastic its construction is sturdy and the bed is JPMA certified so you can enjoy peace of mind knowing your child is safe.

The Delta toddler bed comes in 16 (yes 16!!) different designs featuring some of the most beloved children’s characters from Frozen, Toy Story, Minnie & Mickey, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Spiderman and more. You child will love sleeping in it!

My 3 year old son was excited that his new bed arrived and could not wait for me to assemble the bed together. What’s nice is that a crib size mattress fits easily into the bed frame so it’s a great transition for young ones to go from a crib straight into a toddler bed. The toddler bed frame is also light and easy to move around in the room which is a plus.

7) Delta Children Wood Toddler Bed

Pros

  • Affordable
  • 6 Different designs (featuring popular cartoon characters)
  • Wood construction
  • ASTM certified

Cons

  • May look too “childish” when your child grows up

The Delta Children Wood Toddler Bed is essentially the same as the one we reviewed before, the only difference being this one is made out of wood instead of steel and plastic.

The dimensions are slightly smaller and this one is recommended for kids over 15 months (but you can move you child earlier to this toddler bed without any issues). The great safety feature of this toddler bed is that it has a high frame all around the bed creating a safety barrier that will keep your child safe in the bed no matter how active they are when they sleep.

The bed also features a spinner at its bottom with the days of the week and the hours of the day so that your kid can learn in a fun way. There is also a bedtime checklist that you can easily mark and wipe clean with a cloth which we found to be a great little fun touch.

Im very impressed with this bed. Quality is very high. The images on the wood are simply amazing quality. The top wood all around is curved to help prevent booboos. The sides are a good height to prevent my child from rolling out. Assembly was fairly easy. The ’95”s on both sides of the bed are separate wood prices to give it a 3D look. Wow can’t praise this product more!

8) Dream On Me Brookside Toddler Bed

Pros

  • Clean design
  • 13 Available finishes
  • Made from New Zealan pine wood
  • Middle set of legs

Cons

  • The design may look too “boring” and not appeal to everyone

The Dream on Me Brookside Toddler Bed features an unassuming and clean design and comes in 13 different finishes for your to choose from.

It is a great all around toddler made from high quality New Zealand pine wood and can hold up to 50 lbs.

In terms of safety features and specifications it meets the ASTM standards and the detail that we liked is that it has a set of legs in the center of the frame adding to its sturdiness and safety. All the tools needed for assembly are included in the package.

We bought this for our son to help feel not so closed in in his toddler bed (his crib converts but is enclosed on three sides and there’s a rail) not only does he absolutely love it, he’s willing to sleep in his bed again. Not only was it easy to put together and follow the instructions, it’s very sturdy! The box was kind of messed up on arrival, but everything was packed very well and there was no damage, paint chips or scratches to the parts. Will defintely be recommending to friends and family.

9) Orbelle Trading Toddler Bed

Pros

  • Detachable side rails
  • Modern design
  • Set of legs in the middle for added safety

Cons

  • Just a single color available

The Orbelle Trading Toddler Bed is a good solution for when transitioning from a baby crib to a larger toddler bed and right before you move on to a full-sized bed.

It’s made from wood and features a set of legs in the middle of the frame that enhance its sturdiness. What we especially liked are the detachable side rails. Most toddler beds in our roundup don’t offer this option so you’re “stuck” with them. This provides some nice extra flexibility for when your child outgrows the need for side rails – you can easily remove them.

The major downside is that there is only one color available, albeit grey which will fit in most surroundings, but still this is underwhelming when considering the alternatives.

Really cute toddler bed especially for the price, I cant see spending a lot of money on a toddler bed when they will only use it for a little while, this one is a very good price and built good, my husband said it was very easy to build I lay on the bed with my son sometimes it holds very well.

10) Delta Children Bennett Toddler Bed

Pros

  • JPMA & ASTM certified
  • Sturdy construction
  • Middle-frame legs

Cons

  • Only 3 colors available

The Bennett Toddler Bed is another SKU in the Delta toddler bed lineup. While it doesn’t lack any safety or ergonomic features, we think that some other alternatives from Delta or Dream On Me provide better value for money.

The Bennet toddler bed comes only in 3 different colors which could make it challenging in some cases finding something that you and your child likes but as the available colors are pretty neutral it should be fine.

As with most of our beds in our roundup it features two non-detachable side rails and it even has a set of legs in the middle of the frame. Existing customers report that they are more than happy with the construction and how it has held up so you shouldn’t have any concerns when it comes to its sturdiness.

Easy to assemble, adorable, low enough to ground. Simply adorable and perfect. Transitioned my 15 month old to it tonight easy as pie

The best toddler beds of 2020 summed up

As we mentioned, the transition to a toddler bed from a baby crib or bassinet can vary depending a a variety of factors but what’s for sure is that it will happen overnight!

When’s the time to move on to a toddler bed you should be prepared and have made your due diligence in finding the right one for your child’s need – hopefully our guide will help you.

Toddler beds are different from cots and full size beds as they feature lower sidebars or guard rails to stop your little one from rolling out of the bed when it’s sleeping and also they are low to the ground for easy access.

What to consider before buying a toddler bed

When it comes to safety features and what you should keep in mind before buying a toddler bed then make sure that the materials used are JPMA and/or ASTM certified (meaning they don’t contain any potentially harmful chemicals or substances) and that the construction is sturdy enough.

Finally, always make sure to read the manufacturer’s specification to see the maximum weight recommendation. Other than that, everything else comes down to design and added features.
